SYNOPSIS
Based around the structure of Corbusier’s Poem for the Right Angle - which courses through scales from ‘environment’ to ‘flesh’, this studio engages with ways of working in architecture from offsite knowing (vast, abstract), to onsite knowing (acute, measured).
PROJECT ONE A:
On the Terrestrial Plain_offsite booklet (scale: environment)
To gather research about Merredin and compile a set of mapped 'plates' describing the research and the expectations of the site prior to visiting it. Topics ranged from the infamous CY O'Connor who conceived of the pipeline that links Merredin to Kalgoorlie and Mundaring, supplying the goldfields with water, to the history, topography and morphology of the town.
PROJECT ONE B:
Dead Wood and a Pebble onsite booklet (scale: flesh)
To pursue the thread constructed about Merredin offsite in order to identify what continuities, schisms, assumptions and truths separate offsite learning from onsite. Where offsite learning can reveal only an image of a place, the onsite booklets were to convey the very real, 1:1 facets of their area of investigation.
